The Libyan Student's Sports Federation a held a Beach Volleyball Championship in Wershfana after years of internal conflicts in the Libya. The event also marked the return of active sports activities that were halted to curb the spread of COVID 19 pandemic.
The tournament was branded Peace Championship because it united the youth from all parts of Libya. In an interview, Mr. Tariq Ashad the Federation's Secretary General said that in the past it was very difficult for the federation to summon best teams that can represent the country at international level due to the disunity that prevailed in the country.
“We decided to organize Championships to detect the best talents starting from the beach volleyball Championship of which the winner will participate in the Arab Universities Championship in Muscat, Oman next year," said Mr.Tariq
Beach Volleyball gained traction among the youths in the recent years and it was being played on many beaches across Libya in the summer. It was against that background that the University sports governing federation in Libya decided to organize a competitive championship one of which is the Wershfana peace U24 University Championship.
The two day event saw Wael Al Malti and Jumaa Fetais from the University of Zuwara emerge as winners of the tournament as Munther Abu-Lababa and Anas Al-Wadani from the University of Benghazi scooped the second slot. In the third, was the duo Siwar Al Sharif and Miftah Al subaihi from the University of Benghazi. Abdel Fetais, tournament winner said that the intense competition will yield good results for the game in Libya
"The level of the competition was intense which is good for the game in the country, we made many friendships and got the opportunity to get acquainted with colleagues from all over Libya" Fetais said before adding," I wish events like this will happen more often in the future because of the benefits they come with both on sports and the community at large"
Libya is looking forward to organize as many University sports Championships as possible which will enable the University sports federation in the Libya to choose best players that will represent them at FASU championships and FISU world University games slated for next year in Chengdu, China.
