Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT)will host a number of African Universities as they participate in the 5th FASU Cross-Country Championship on November 20, 2021.The Championship is organized is held biannually and brings together over 200 athletes and officials from various universities in Africa.


So far, a number of African Universities have confirmed participation including University of Johannesburg, Tshwane University of Technology, University of Ghana, Makerere University, Maseno University, Meru University of Science of Technology, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Kenyatta University, University of Eldoret and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.

The 5th edition of the Cross-Country was to be held in Guinea Conakry but due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation in the country, FASU identified an alternative host.

JKUAT and the Kenya Universities Sports Federation, (KUSF) were awarded the hosting rights of the event. “JKUAT is the ideal host for this championship owing to the fact that we have a cross-country course that meets international standards and we have hosted competitions of high profile in the past,” said Dr. Peter Waweru Kamaku, the Director of Sports at JKUAT and also the Chairperson of the Local Organizing Committee of the Championship.

He further said, that JKUAT has adequate accommodation facilities within the institution, which will act as the games village. Having recently hosted the second Africa Woodball Championships, Dr. Kamaku reckons, the event will significantly market JKUAT and the country as the preferred sports and tourism destination in Africa coming shortly after the successful hosting of the World Athletics Under 20 Championships and the 2nd Edition of the prestigious Kip Keino Classic.
